Nectarines, like a classic peaches, refer to the stone fruits. It is a mistake to believe that the nectarine is a hybrid of a peach with a plum or an apple. Biologists tend to think just nectarine is a variety of peach that has a smooth skin. The appearance is caused by nectarine selfing, when pollen from one tree is transferred to the pistil of the same tree. This type of pollination is characterized by only a few plant species, among which are also the nectarines. The first mention of nectarines belong to the beginning of the seventeenth century.
